My first workshop I ever attended on graphic design was in Switzerland, so the book will no doubt be affected by my being here. It will show a lot of the new work I’ve done over the past few years, and will, as the title suggests, finally get the official “rules” out on graphic design. David Carson: Well, in the 80s I was mostly surfing, teaching, chasing girls, and had begun to work on my first magazine, one called Transworld Skateboarding magazine. After the publication of only six issues, the magazine folded. It is important to note that Carson’s work generally appealed to a younger audience, which aided in the growing circulation of the magazine. I was having a tough time in school and really questioning whether I wanted to be a designer at all. The Logo Creative – What do you consider your most successful design project, and why? It’s a very special place and helps me recharge. His work is characterized by his signature chaotic typography and patterns his work embodies, the disarray of photos overlapping each other, seemingly meaningless at the surface but holding a larger picture. Great design is a never-ending journey of discovery -- for which it helps to pack a healthy sense of humor. David Carson – Hi Andrew, absolutely this sounds really good. As long as you look for the solution in the particular thing you are working on, and not some predetermined formula or system, you will never run out of ideas.
